Something that has been seen recently is that a lot of older people are going back to college so that they have a better chance of getting a good job in the current economy. But the problem is that they often don’t have the money to do it, and that is why they turn to scholarships for people over age 50 for college. AARP Scholarships

The first place that adults can find scholarships for people over age 50 for college is through AARP.  There’s a scholarship program that supports women who want to go to college who are age 40 and older from backgrounds that are low-income. This is a program that helps the scholarship recipients who are pursuing a technical education, their initial undergraduate degree, or their associate degree.  There is preference that will be given to those who are raising a child or children of a family member, those who have low income and no prospects for career advancement, and those who don’t have health insurance or retirement benefits. Osher Reentry Scholarship

 

This is the second of the places that adults can find scholarships for people over age 50 for college This foundation found in San Francisco offers the scholarship funds to universities and colleges across the country and it pays particular attention to those who are reentering college.  It helps undergraduates to finish degrees once they’ve been away from their studies for at least five years.  Those who have reached the age of 50 are at the top of the age group for the grant. Academic potential, financial need, and a hard commitment to completing their degree are the scholarship requirements. Older Writers Grant Through The Speculative Literature Foundation

The third place where adults can find scholarships for people over age 50 for college is through this foundation.  It’s an annual award for those writers who are at least age 50. Grant applications send in a 500 word or less biographical statement which includes their birth date.  The candidate also has to send a writing sample of as many as ten pages for a drama piece, 10,000 words for nonfiction or fiction, and a synopsis of one page that accompanies a novel part.   It’s also required for the applicant to include the bibliography of the work they’ve published, since having had work published is something that is a prerequisite. The grant value is $750.
