How to Pay for College with No Financial Aid

A lot of students have their financial aid doors closed to them and they want to know how to pay for college with no financial aid.  Students wanting to pay for college without recourse to financial aid have several options.  One answer to how to pay for college with no financial aid is to attend a tuition-free college.  Though most students are not aware that tuition-free colleges exist, there are actually several scattered throughout the United States.

Consider one of these institutions when you’re wondering how to pay for college with no financial aid.

1. Berea College

Berea College is a liberal arts ‘work college’ located in Berea, Kentucky.  Founded in 1855, Berea charges no tuition; every student admitted to the college is provided a scholarship equal to four years of tuition.  In exchange, students are required to work at least ten hours a week in various campus and service jobs.  Berea offers the full range of undergraduate academic programs and graduates are well-considered in application pools.

2. Alice Lloyd College

Like Berea, Alice Lloyd College is a liberal arts ‘work college,’ meaning that tuition is substantially reduced or completely absolved in exchange for work, either on- or off-campus.  Alice Lloyd is located in Pippa Passes, Kentucky, and offers thirteen major degree programs.  The vast majority of students go on to a graduate program.  Students from 108 counties in the Appalachian region of Kentucky, West Virginia, Virginia, Tennessee, and Ohio pay no tuition at all, while those accepted from outside Appalachia pay a substantially reduced amount.

3. Webb Institute

Webb Institute, located in Glen Cove, New York, offers only one degree: a Bachelor of Science in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering.  A full-tuition scholarship is awarded to anyone, male or female, admitted to the program, and housing is provided on-site.  Study is intense, with up to fifteen hours of schoolwork assigned for each day, though paid internships do allow the students to earn some spending money.

It’s easy to see that there are options when you want to know how to pay for college with no financial aid.  You just have to look for them and keep your mind open to the possibilities that are out there. College doesn’t have to be expensive or even cost you anything. You just have to know where to look and where you should go.
