Financial Aid for African American Nurse Students

Here are four different types of financial aid for African American nurse students that they can apply for.


The first kind of financial aid for African American nurse students is the NBNA. It was coordinated in 1971 below the leading of Dr. Lauranne Sams, and it’s something that represents150,000 African American nurses. It offers a lot of scholarships that range from $500 up to $2,000. Prospects need to be presently entered in a program for nursing, have good grades, be an MBNA member as well as have at the least one entire year of college left over. They need to furnish official copies from school of nursing that’s accredited a written essay of two pages, and two recommendation letters. It’s also a good idea to show participation in activities with other nurses as well as involvement in the community of African Americans is something that is encouraged.

National Hook-Up of Black Women, Inc.

This is the second kind of financial aid for African American nurse students. It sponsors two scholarships for women who are African American. The first is the Dr. Arnita Young Boswell Scholarship and it’s awarded to those students that are enrolled in a university or college that’s accredited. There’s at least $1,000 that’s going to be awarded. The other one is the Dr. Wynetta A. Frazier “Sister to Sister” Scholarship and it’s awarded to the women who are 30 and older who are going back to college and don’t have any support from their spouse. There are two awards of at least $500 which are awarded annually. The requirements for eligibility are outlined in applications that are obtained by contacting the scholarship committee.

Minority Nurse Anesthetist Scholarship

The third kind of financial aid for African American nurse students, this scholarship awards as much as $10,000 to an RN who’s a minority and has BSN in order to go to the St. Elizabeth Health Center School for Nurse Anesthetists. Interested applications have to apply no later than February 15, have to meet the requirements of admission, and commit to working with Humility of Mary Health Partners when they graduate.

These three types of financial aid for African American nurse students are going to help the African American students who are pursuing nursing to get the money that they need for college and to give themselves a better life.
