Do Felons Deserve a Second Chance?

One of the things that is often a big controversy is “do felons deserve a second chance?” There are people who don’t believe that felons should get a second chance and there are others who answer yes to the question do felons deserve a second chance?.  There are a few things that influence the person’s thought about whether or not a convicted felon should get another chance.

  • Conviction – The first thing that is going to make someone answer yes or no to the question “Do felons deserve a second chance?” is what they were convicted of.  There are people who are more forgiving of some things than they are of other things.  So the conviction is going to be something that will affect whether or not they are willing to give the person a second chance.

For example, people who were robbed are going to be less likely to offer the felon a second chance than people who read about it in the newspaper.
  • Multiple Convictions – The third thing that is going to make someone answer yes or no to the question “Do felons deserve a second chance?” is if the person has had more than one felony.  When someone has had more than one felony and they have been given a second chance, people think that they blew it and they shouldn’t get another chance. So that is something that goes into the answer of those who are asked “do felons deserve a second chance?”.

These are three things that make people answer yes or no to this question. There are other things that can affect the person’s answer as well, but these are the three main ones.  There are people who don’t think that felons should get a second chance. It depends on different mitigating circumstances and different things, but it’s a debate that a lot of people have fought with and will continue to fight about as long as there are felons and people who are willing to give them second chances.  So do felons deserve a second chance? It depends on a case by case basis and who you are asking.
